Top Beading Questions – Answered by Sundaylace Creations 💜

1. What size beading needle should I use?

It depends on your bead size! For most 11/0 or 10/0 seed beads, we recommend Size 10 or 11 Beading Needles. For tiny 13/0 Charlottes, go with Size 12 or Tulip Needles (they’re extra fine and flexible).

2. What’s the difference between Delica and seed beads?

Delica Beads are perfectly shaped cylinders – amazing for brick stitch, peyote, and clean geometric designs. Seed Beads (like Preciosa or Sheen) are rounder and better for fringe, edging, or organic styles. Shop both at Sundaylace under “Delica Beads” and “Seed Beads.”

3. What’s a good thread for beading?

We love One-G, KO Thread, and Nymo B for flatwork and detailed stitching. For stronger backing or edging, FireLine is your best bet. All available at Sundaylace Creations.

4. What’s the best backing for beadwork?

Beading Foundation (like Lacy’s Stiff Stuff) is great for detailed work. For softer feels, use Suede or Ultrasuede. We also carry Leatherette Sheets in Indigenous-inspired colours — perfect for earrings and medallions.

5. How do I finish the back of earrings?

After beading your design on stiff foundation, glue it onto your backing (suede, leatherette, etc.), then edge-stitch around with size 11/0 beads for a clean finish. Don’t forget your earposts or fishhooks – we sell them in stainless steel and hypoallergenic options.

6. Do you sell beading kits?

Yes! Our Sundaylace Starter Kits include beads, thread, backing, gems, and needles — curated for beginners. We also have themed kits for Orange Shirt Day, Christmas, and Powwow Season.

7. Where can I learn to bead?

Follow us on TikTok and Facebook @SundaylaceCreations — we post tips, bead haul videos, and tutorials. Plus, we carry books and project patterns to guide you.

8. What glue should I use for cabochons?

E6000 is our go-to! Strong, flexible, and clear. Use a tiny dot to secure your gem to the beading foundation before you stitch around it.

9. What’s a cabochon and how do I use it?

A cabochon (or “cab”) is a flat-back gem or image you bead around. Sundaylace carries Fancy Glass Cabs, Resin Sets, and DIY Printable Cabs so you can make custom gifts or memorial pieces.

10. Do you carry 13/0 Charlotte beads?

Yes! We’re known for our Sheen Charlotte 13/0 collections — they sparkle like no other and are great for detailed beadwork or fringes.

11. What are peyote and brick stitch?

They’re common off-loom beading stitches. Peyote builds in a wave pattern, while brick stitch stacks like bricks. We offer starter templates and stitch books to help you learn!

12. What do I need to start beading earrings?

You’ll need:

– Foundation (Lacy’s or Goodfelt)

– Size 10 or 11 needles

– Nymo thread

– 11/0 seed beads or Delicas

– Gem/cab focal

– Backing (Leatherette/vinyl)

– Earring posts or hooks

Find them all in our Starter Supplies section.

13. What size beads should I buy?

11/0 is the most common

13/0 Charlottes are tiny and sparkly

10/0 or 8/0 are larger and great for beginners or edging

Use our photos for scale — and check our Size Guide on the website.

14. What’s the difference between Czech and Japanese beads?

Japanese beads (like Delicas and Toho) are very uniform — great for clean work. Czech beads (like Preciosa) have more curve and character — perfect for fringe, rosettes, and softer patterns.

15. Do I need special scissors or tools?

Good scissors help! We stock Thread Snips, Bead Mats, and Bead Organizers — everything to keep your workspace clean and frustration-free.
